First edition. - Captain Frederick Marryat (1792 - 1848) was an English Royal Navy officer, novelist, and a contemporary and acquaintance of Charles Dickens, noted today as an early pioneer of the sea story. - Binding somewhat stained, edges slightly rubbed, spine faded, margins of plates slightly foxing, one plate with edgewaer to corner, one plate with three small marginal defects, frontispice and engraved title-page waterstained in the upper margin, previous owner`s ink inscription to title, else a good copy.
