Published in "L'an Troisieme", the third year of the French Republican calendar (Sept 22 1794 to Sept 22 1795 of the Gregorian calendar). Dark blue leather tomes with five raised bands on the spine. Little decorative elements in blind and gilded embossing on the boards and spine, the latter stamped with "Gil Blas", the tome numbers and "Paris 1794". Gilt edges with punched ornamentation. Light wear on the edges, overall in a near fine condition. Slight foxing and occasional browned edges on the pages, barely noteworthy considering the age. Tome 1 / page 391 with crease and thus unclean cut. All in all a beautiful example of this fine, illustrated edition. Bookplate of Albany Savile (British Member of Parliament 1783-1831)
